A bad port and bad example of a PS2 game.

User Rating: 5 | The King of Fighters NeoWave PS2
I have been a fan of the KOF series and it's the first time since decades I last played the arcades, and since I had a PS2 I thought why not get a copy? Unfortunately King of Fighters Neowave was the wrong choice.
Not only is it a poor port from the arcade, it does not take advantage of the PS2 hardware, this game would have been better off as PS1 port.

Game design: The graphics are in 2D, which is definitely what KOF should be, however considering the year of the game was released in 2005 - 2006 the art style should have been MUCH better quality, HD at the least.
Also the environments aren't very interactive or varied for that matter and character animations (aside from super combo moves) don't look great at all.

Game play: Although KOF was always about button mashing it should have been clear to SNK that nowadays people would prefer more accessible moves when playing at home.
Combos may not appear to be very difficult to pull off, however it's the controls that are the problem.
In the arcade you usually play using joystick, but the game instead uses the directional pad and there are no options for Analog sticks making it unnecessarily difficult to pull off the combos, sure the game offers different fighting style but what's the point when the controls are hardly accessible?

Sound: Voices are all in Japanese, even the menu screen, and the music is irritating and it cannot be switched off.

There is definitely some fighting in the game but its nothing like the arcade.
The graphics and overall game presentation is totally unimpressive, the controls are a pain and the game doesn't use PS2 hardware at all, more like PS1.
The game is mediocre, has nothing special and is a complete waste of time. Fans might benefit from this, but otherwise nobody else
