The Last of Us : Damn near perfect

User Rating: 9.5 | The Last of Us PS3
I have been a long time fan of Naughty Dog. From the Jak and Daxter series to the Uncharted series and now to The Last of Us.

Story has always been a priority to them. Their games have all been rich with it. The Last of Us now takes it to the next level.

From beginning to end the lighting, colors and areas you play in perfectly depict the situation. Sectionally broken down into the four seasons the look is dead on .

What wins so much respect from me is the depth of character creation. You see all of the obvious flaws and strengths with each one. Particularly Joel. A man who, at the end of the day, is trying to do his best with a second chance.

The gameplay takes a bit of getting used to. Once you do though you see it is a smart system of inventory control and real time crafting. If you don't make sure you're safe, you will pay.

Although primarily a linear path, it didn't bother me because the story and gameplay were so good. Strategy is important. Each enemy acts and reacts differently so planning is essential and trial by fire is inevitable.

Ammo isn't all around so improvisation or avoidance may be the best way to go.

With the way the story was unfolding, I saw one of two potential outcomes. After I finished I was surprised to see that neither were true. They didn't take an easy way out and I applaud that although many will not.

The online play is an excellent bonus to an amazing story. You play in groups of four on four so there never is a server issue of lag. You play as a Firefly or rebel for the simple goal of making your group stronger. The periodical challenges that risk the potential annihilation of your group are a strong incentive to get that extra kill in order to keep your group alive.

The last of us is an amazing must play game and I can't wait for the DLC to see what else there is out there.
