My favorite RPG on the PSone. Not exactly sure what it was that Gamespot missed, but they seriously rated it too low.

I got this game for Christmas in 2000, and I remember me, my brother, and my dad--MY DAD, FOR PETE'S SAKE--fought over whose turn it was to play this game. I've beaten it going on 14 times since I got it. My dad eventually gave up because he wanted to fight instead of read. Understandable. There are the occasional game glitches, but I never let that get to me. Why people choose FFVII over this, I don't know. So anyways, let's go to why I like it. For one, the battle system is something that was introduced through this game to the world of RPGs. You got these additions that if you hit the X or O button (O button was for countering a counter) at the exact time, you got a spiffy attack that did considerable damage, depending on the Damage % listed. If you max out all 6 (each one is usually gained through a certain level) then you got the 7th Addition, which is the awesome Blazing Dynamo. Something to look forward to. I think Madness Hero was the weakest addition; HOWEVER, you got a buttload of Spirit Points so you can just go to some weak monster area, random battle your little Dragoon heart out, and gain so much SP that you can probably level up your Dragoon Spirit.

This was one of very few RPGs released in 2000 that actually had voices and cinemas. GameSpot rated this thing low, but most likely they compared this to FFVII too. Funny thing is, the graphics and 3D animation did pretty good. Rose's voice sounded kinda funny and not very well auditioned, but it worked and it kinda fit her personality, in a cheap way. You got to have a bunch of side missions in this game, too. After you complete the 3rd disc and get the wings of Savan (it's a flying stingray named Coolon) in Zenebatos, you can go do all the side missions and such. Tower of Flanvel, you have Magician Faust, whom you can learn about in that one Wingly city in the desert at the beginning of the 4th disc. I'm jumping a little further ahead, I know. It's okay, I'm not revealing too much, so you'll be okay. Now, there's a reason why I don't like it. The items and it's capacity. You can only carry 32 items altogether. No matter what type it is, whether it's healing or magical spells (Burn Out, Psyche Bomb X, etc.). It takes some getting used to, hence the learning curve is up to 60 minutes. You gotta learn to preserve your items and such. You can keep all the weapons you want, but since I get so fidgety about organization, I sell all my unwanted items. There are few I keep, in case I need them later for extra SP or I'm fighting a certain kind of enemy, but there's not many. There's a sword you can get later in that Wingly city I mentioned earlier, the one where you meet Charla Frahma and learn about Faust, that gets you 150% of SP so you get more when you complete an addition.

There's a weapon for Dart you guys need to watch out for: The Soul Eater. That one can take away 10% of your health EVERY TURN. So what you wanna do is equip yourself with a Therapy Ring so that way you can counter the weapons health decrease. You get it by defeating the armour in Fort Magrad on the 3rd disc. This one you can actually fight before meeting up with Diaz. But it's better to come back when you have your Dark Dragoon null armor for Rose and some better power for Miranda. When you have her, she can use some of her Dragoon attacks, preferably Star Children, against the armour. If you ask why is it worth the battle, it's the second strongest weapon in the game, which is beaten by the Dragon Buster.

Stardust is also your friend. There are 50 altogether, and for every 10 you collect and give to that woman, Martel, in Fletz/Deningrad/Rouge (in that order), she gives you something in return. A word of advice is, don't fight Faust until you have the Vanishing Stone, which you get from Martel after giving her the 50th Stardust. If you need help finding them, there's places on the net that have them listed. But to make your search easier, here's the link to where they are:

This game has been known to be kind of glitchy, so be warned. If you would need help, just send me a message and I'll help you out.
