Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion Bad Menu Sound Effects, A Slow Start, Poor English Trans But a grea
Okay, I am going to be blunt. Initially I did not get very excited about this game once I started playing it. The script seemed childish and shallow. However, after spending some time with LOH it started to grow on me. I am now about 28 hours into the game and it is difficult to put it down.
Graphically, the best part of the game is the outside world. Town and Battle graphics have been pretty bland thus far, aside from some cool spell effects. The texturing in the natural landscapes is awesome though.
LOH has a diverse and appropriate musical score. It has obvious roots from the early Ys games. There should have been an option to turn off the sound effects made by the cursers and the menus. There is a reason most rpg's utilize small, soft sounds for curser movement. Some games lack curser sound altogether. The reason for this is most likely due to the sheer degree that the sound will be played. Even a pleasant sound can start to drill a hole in your head after 5 hours. Unfortunately, the curser sound in LOH is anything but pleasant. It almost serves as a deterant to keep you from accessing menus or playing with the volume on.
The english transalation of this game is horrid. There They're Their are often misused. There are a lot of typos in this game, which detracts from it's ability to submerse the player into it's world.
Those flaws do not keep me from playing this game. Once you get past these setbacks, there is a solid and entertaining RPG waiting to be played.
