Worth buying a Nintendo Switch or Wii U for

User Rating: 10 | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Master Edition) NS

Let me preface this review with praise for the competition. Microsoft and Sony both have very good consoles with great games. I love both consoles. If it weren't for these two companies gaining so much market share from Nintendo, Breath of the Wild would not exist today. Desparate genius, scratching and clawing in the deepest depths of artistry has fueled this game, and it shows in every detail.

If you own a PS4 or Xbox one and can't afford to play Zelda : Breath of the Wild on the Switch, it would be worth your while to hunt down a used Wii U and grab a copy of the game. If you don't own any console and are thinking of picking one up, the Switch might still not be for you. I would still recommend purchasing a PS4 or Xbox One and getting a used Wii U with a copy of Zelda.

If you consider yourself patient enough to wait for some follow up first person titles from Nintendo, or you're the kind of person that buys a console for 3-4 big games every couple of years you could purchase a Nintendo Switch and a copy of Zelda, or PS4 /Xbox One with a used Wii U and a copy of Zelda.

If, on the other hand, you already own an Xbox 1 or PS4 or 3DS and love videogames, and are thinking about a new console to have access to different IP, the Nintendo Switch is the console for you, with a copy of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

There isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said. Expect this game to be in the top five of future top 100 games of all time for many many years to come, and expect it to be number one for many of those many years. Its merging of art and technology, modern game design and sensibilities, will have you hooked from start to finish, make you smile in genuine surprise hour after hour, and have you pushing to unlock its secrets on the highest mountains and deepest ravines. It will be the benchmark for fantasy themed open world games for the next decade or more. Not playing would be tantamount to gamer sin.

I won't go on as so much has already been said. Don't pass this game up. Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nioh, Nier: Automata are still excellent; Forza, Halo, Quantum Break et all are still worth playing, but no contemporary game will leave as long a lasting impression as Breath of the Wild for a very long time.
