The original gameboy only had one Zelda game, others were on the GBC. That Zelda game happened to be Link's awakening and it was a must play. Following the original Zelda formula, you ventured your way through a big world conquering 8 dungeons to retrieve an artifact (instruments in Link's Awakening). The whole item management was the same as the original Zelda (sword one button and tool another, but you could have two tools equip at the same time, this was new at the time for Zelda games. Link's Adventure was a game true to its roots in a whole lot of respects. The story was Zelda gold, Link is ship wrecked on a mysterious island and cannot leave until he awakens the wind fish by collecting the 8 instruments and somehow playing them in symphony format to crack the shell. But Link learns that he's just dreaming and nothing on the Island is real at all. Yes, that does mean his "girl friend" Marin doesn't exist (anyway link, do you really think that Zelda would let you go with that?) and who would believe there was really a village of talking animals? Yeah a dream alright (although that owl appears in many other Zelda games. So to wrap it up, Links Awakening (and the DX version) are both must have GB games. With virtually no flaws, it follows the rights of all Zelda games, an instant classic.
