As close to perfection as you'll ever get.
First off, the game physically feels better than Ocarina of Time (I'll be referring to it as OOT from now). The controls feel tighter, the graphics are improved ever so slightly, and feels more...Imaginative.
The characters are all so wonderfully weird (In your surreal conversation with Kamaro, for example. Or the little girl who's house (containing her mummified father) is surrounded by Gibdos (Mummy-like creatures) if that's not weird enough) you'll swear you've fallen out of Termina (the games region, not Hyrule) and into one of Tim Burton's gothic fantasies.
The mask system works surprisingly well, better than the Iron Boots of yore, and, at the risk of sounding more twee than a Disney Channel marathon, you'll feel like a different person with each mask. Cough.
Now, onto those minor niggles. The first of which is the dungeon design, which, although still amazing, fails to live up to the standards of OOT's masterpieces. The water temple (I fail to remember it's proper name) has pipes for example, where you use Ice arrows to freeze the water jutting out from them to make, you guessed it, a platform to get up onto the second pipe. Now, I do enjoy a bit of freezing now and again, that old technique is fairly cliched.
The second minor niggle is the 3-day time limit. I think this is inspired, and a genius idea of mixing up the game a little, but, as you've JUST beaten that giant skeleton in a race (don't ask) and are treated to a cutscene of Termina being crushed by the Moons MASSIVE NOSE, you will not be amused.
If you enjoy quality, under-representated adventures that are still fun almost 10 years on, by all means. Get this beast. You won't regret it.
