The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time shocked the video game industry not because it was in 3D, not because the series was created by a man called Miyamoto, and not because it took over four years to develop. But it was because it revolutionized the phrase "Adventure." When you pop in the cart and started playing, you knew you would be in a wild ride. The game was a prequel to the series, telling you the origins of a child Link and his promising future to save Hyrule. He has premonitions of a clouded darkness night after night. The dream shows the introduction of Ganondorf, a disguise of the dreaded Ganon. The game starts off with a companion named Navi, who follows Link and gives him clues to where he has to go to next. Link must first find the three spiritual stones, Kokiri, Goron, and Zora. The story was a departure from earlier Zelda games, now allowing you to see fully-rendered cinematics to engage you into the adventure of Hyrule. Link won't be young in the whole game, as you will go further in time as a more mature Link, and that is just a third of the completed game to that point. There are three spiritual stone dungeons, six temples, one side dungeon, two young Link dungeons, and the final dungeon, which makes it about thirteen levels full of puzzles and battles. Speaking of battles, the fighting system is just top-notch, allowing you to lock on enemies and bosses, and Navi can help you with weak spots just by pressing the C-up button when the "Navi" icon appears. The puzzles have been improved. No longer will you play Zelda in 2-D (except on handhelds later on) as the puzzles are complex and challenging, as it will in the Water Temple. The first time I played OoT it took me about six to seven months; the second time, less than 48 hours. There is a lot of replay value, so you can venture high and low in Hyrule until the next Zelda game comes out. This is an instant classic.
