Met all my expectations
User Rating: 9.6 | The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time N64
There has been many developers and companies throughout the ages that has tried to tell a story in a video game as effectively as it has done for a long time now in Movies. The gaming industry is not quite there yet though. Gaming is still focusing on technology and improving. Limits are still putting controlling what is possible. Movies have almost gone beyond that point. But needless to say, some games have actually managed to tell a great story. But probably the one that tells it so great, without destroying the pace of the rest of the game, is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. Some 7 years after it's original release it still stands as the unofficial best game ever created. Ocarina of time was Video game legend, Shigeru Miyamotos last Hugh involvement in a game. With his over 300 people in his development team, he made a game like no other. While the previous Zelda games have always been respected and loved, Ocarina of time simply was just not mind blowing in its genre. It reformed it. It still does. The way you moved the camera. The way the combat worked with a Z trigger target system. It was all revolutionary. Legendary game music composer Koji Kendo, also shines here. His many tunes and themes is simply stunning. Like medieval Japanese folklore. The story is simple, but is complex and has some amazing twists. It has so many cinematics and cut scenes but it is impossible to wonder how well they fit in the game. Unlike other story driven games like "Final Fantasy" and "Metal gear Solid" which are tormented with endless amounts of boring text or cut scenes, Zelda: OOT managed to never let down the pace, but always keeping things interesting. There is really no excuse. This is the best game ever created. Every reviewer seems to agree. Ranked nr. 1 on Gamerankings, got 40/40 in the critical and famous Japanese magazine Famitsu, got 10 in Edge(the most critical magazine in the world) and perfect scores from the most respected sites of all time like Gamespot and IGN. The game is almost flawless. It ages shows after 7 years, but even after all this time almost nothing can beat the sense of achievement, sense of progression, sense of telling a story in a perfect and fluid way and creating a seamless and totally non frustrating experience. It does not matter if you like action games or role playing games. It does not matter if your a fan of video games in general. You don't need any of does things to appreciate the amazing qualities of what this game has to offer. It is a pioneer of something that might never be surpassed. Ironicly, while this game did sell over 7 million copies worldwide, it was released first on the ill fated Nintendi 64 that was a disappointment to its much more sales wise popular big brother, the SNES(Super Nintendo Entertainment System). Selling somehow between 25 and 30 million units worldwide the console was overshadowed by the popular pop culture icon, Playstation which with its raw mainstream image took on the MTV consumers like no other. If you have a Gamecube you should buy the newest Zelda(The wind waker) and check for an extra disc which includes this hole game for free. And if you don't have a gamecube you owe it to yourself to buy one, just for this game. It is that good. There is nothing better... yet.
