best game ever created.....

User Rating: 10 | The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time N64
Well, it’s near common knowledge to most people who have heard about video games that The Legend of Zelda is considered to many people be the greatest video game series of all time. Though before Ocarina of Time (OoT), the Legend of Zelda seires was only know to a few million fans as a 2D epic adventure. For the first time the popular series was to be released in 3D. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time which had been in development for a long time under the great legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto to create a superb video game for Nintendo 64. He and his team would never have known the complete and even greater than expected success that immediately followed the release of OoT. This month, 7 years ago OoT hit North American shelves, and the initial shipments of this game did not last very long. OoT was sold out almost everywhere and considered to many a game to rival and even be better than that of Final Fantasy 7 which released a year earlier and still at its prime of success. The reason why OoT became one of the world’s greatest video games was not because of the legendary series behind it but because of the way it revolutionized the gaming industry in so many ways.

First Revolution – Story:

Without great story video games in the gaming industry will most likely not be remembered as time goes by. And even though many sequels released following OoT’s 1998 release, it is a game that will have its story remember for all time. Placing a few twists and turns on the characters that basically create a Zelda game but delving so much more into content, characters and themes that no one has ever seen Zelda like it before. Here’s a little introduction that won’t scratch the surface of the full story (only experienced by playing the game). A young boy who lives in Kokiri Forest is the only Kokiri child without a fairy. He is summoned by the Deku Tree, the watcher and protector of Kokiri forest and assigns Navi the fairy to be the boy’s guardian. The little boy is the main character and pretty much is called whatever you name him in the beginning of the game, for the sake of the review I will use his original name given to him by Nintendo, Link. The Deku Tree advises him that he is dieing of a curse that was put on him by an evil man who tends to rule all the land of Hyrule. He asks Link with the help of Navi to go inside him to try and break the curse before it’s too late. Defeating many evil monsters Link summons the courage to vanquish all the evil inside the Deku Tree however, it is too late and he tells Link to take the Spiritual Stone which the evil man wanted from the Great Tree and to collect the other 2 Spiritual Stones. The 3 stones are the key to complete power of Hyrule, as they gain the bearer access to the forbidden sacred realm where the Triforce lies. Whoever touches the Triforce (left by the 3 goddesses that created Hyrule) has whatever he desires granted. The evil man is soon discovered to be Ganondorf, who hides his secret plans from Hyrule Castle and the Princess of Hyrule, the young Princess Zelda who he pledges loyalty to. Link seeks Zelda to help discover the locations of the other Spiritual Stones but she suspects Ganondorf to be evil and asks Link to help her foil his plans in secret. After obtaining the other 2 Spiritual Stones most would think the game is almost over as everything seems to be accomplished, however, you can take this to be the introduction to OoT. A huge plot twist occurs that requires Link to move up in time by 7 years changes so much of the world around him, and more obviously changes Link himself aswell. You’ll have to play the game to discover the Legend of OoT’s story.

Second Revolution – Graphics:

Simply put, there was no game like it. At its time Ocarina of Time boasted the best 3D in-game graphics that ever existed. OoT had fully animated 3D characters, rendered backgrounds to give the game an extremely rare realistic look and an awesome camera and cinematic scenes. No slow downs or loading time plagued this graphical behemoth of the time which was also considered extraordinary. Wonderful sets of colours, never before seen environments and more made the gamer truly immersed in the game world.

Third Revolution – Gameplay:

Also considered to be the most copied engine in video games, the way OoT revolutionized the way gamers play their games will never be forgotten. Being the first with the astounding Action button interface, and controlling the camera and unique targeting system was a first for the entire world. All movements and playing is done in real time and even today it is difficult to replicate the glorious feel of playing OoT. The other half of gameplay is the fun factor. Trust me, if I played and completed this game dozens of time, and still not bored of it, the game absolutely has to be fun to play. OoT is probably one of the most fun playing video games out there.

A game to be remembered for all time:

If a game wasn’t this good I wouldn’t write a review for it 7 years after its official release. However, there are the select few who have yet to play this game. For whatever reason, if you have yet to experience (what many professional review sites consider a perfect game) OoT, do yourself a favour and somehow get your hand on it. I will guarantee you that if you consider this review (which restates the fact that it is a 7 year old game over and over) you will have a great time with Ocarina of Time.
