Zelda Ocarina of Time will forever be the foundations to every great Zelda game for the upcoming new generation!
When a video game achieves greatness upon epic proportions it will go down in history as the greatest video game ever. It will also be considered the best game in a series and a gold standard. A video game that achieved this title was Zelda Ocarina of Time! Back during 1998 in the peak of the N64 era this game made its mark in video gaming history and changed it forever! Zelda Ocarina of Time generated the most sells out of any video game during the time of the N64's birth! This game showed off Nintendo's magic and inspired many other companies and future game developers to compete with this legendary game! Of course it has been 13 years going on 14 years since this games epic release but the Zelda gold still continues to shine through even to this day! This game has received many awards, praise, reviews, and even ridicule from complete noobs! This game has also been re-released several times to the point where it has now become a download on the Wii Virtual Console! Zelda Ocarina of Time even now has a remake on 3DS that adds another several millions in sells to an already by the books best selling game ever! Zelda Ocarina of Time has impacted video gaming history so much that it's just a crime to say this game is terrible. The Zelda series alone has celebrated a 25 year anniversary and I believe they deserve 25 more years but I know that is hard to predict. But in the mean time though let me begin this review because this really deserves my respect!
Storyline: Zelda Ocarina Time has probably the most emotionally gripping storyline ever. In Kokari Village the Deku Tree tells of a boy (Link) who has no fairy companion and he must one day face his destiny. The storyline begins with Link having a terrible nightmare about a wicked man riding a black horse clad in armor chasing after little Zelda as she flees Hyrule with the Great Impa. The Deku Tree then suffers a terrible curse and believes that the time has come for the boy with no fairy to arise and fulfill his destiny. He makes a terrible mistake by choosing Navi which will be the most ANNOYING partner ever. Navi finds Link and after a series of events brings him to the Deku Tree. Link must prove to the Deku Tree that he can go inside of him and break the curse. But unfortunately his efforts were already in vein due to the Spider Monster infestation and the Gohma boss fight which was enough indication to prove that there was a great evil at work by the hands of the one and only iconic villain of the Zelda franchise Ganondorf. Afterwards Link receives the Forest Spiritual Stone from the Deku Tree for his troubles and is warned of the evil man's presence in Hyrule. The Deku Tree then succumbs to his death and Navi must assist Link the rest of the game. In Zelda Ocarina of Time Link later meets his destiny to fight Ganon and in order to defeat Ganon he must use the power of not only the Ocarina of Time but the Master Sword as well!
Gameplay: Zelda Ocarina of Time plays like 3D Zelda game should play! This game was the first game to introduce the revolutionary targeting system! In Ocarina of Time your first task is to collect the 3 Spiritual Stones that represent 3 of the regions in the game. But this task cannot simply be accomplished that easily. Not without the help of an Ocarina which will serve a major purpose in the game. The first Ocarina you receive is the one that Sarah gives you before you leave the forest. You will learn a couple of songs with it that will help you progress such as Zelda's Lullaby, Sarah's Song, and Epona's Song. As you get further in the game you will eventually receive the Ocarina of Time and learn the Song of Time which will really be one of the major events in the game. But the pinnacle moment of the game will be when you pull out the Master Sword from its pedestal and learn that your spirit was frozen for 7 years in the Sacred Realm and that Ganondorf in the process took advantage of this by destroying Hyrule Castle to replace it with Ganon's Castle! This is when the game takes a turn to the more series part because then you learn that you must awaken 5 of the 6 sages and get there medallions to add their power to yours so you can reach Ganon's Castle. The game starts to get tough because when you reach the Water Temple you learn right away why the Zelda series is so well known for its dungeons! There are a number of side quests strewn across this game with one being how you acquire Epona and another being how get the Big Goron Sword. Also another side quest I will mention is killing all the Golden Skullutas because that I found pretty fun. There is a decent amount of content in this game to keep you busy as far as the gameplay goes.
Graphics: This game was released about 13 years ago on N64 so don't walk in expecting graphics like Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword. This game was a huge accomplishment during the age of 64 bit graphics! Though the graphics are showing there signs of age compared to all the new games that have come out over the years, Zelda Ocarina of Time still makes a comeback by getting a full graphics makeover on the 3DS which proves that this game is still going strong even after almost 14 years now! There is no reason to complain about dated graphics with this game anymore. In fact, there never was a reason to complain because it is still a masterpiece whether you decide to play either the N64 version or the 3DS version which is portable! Yes, the game is just that awesome!
Value: This game I've played to the point where I know it like the back of my hand. The replay value all depends on if you are a Zelda fan or if you just enjoy the game period and aren't a huge fan of Zelda. But most huge fans of Zelda spawned right here so if you played this Zelda title and enjoyed it then chances are you have probably played another and another and ANOTHER! Don't look at me like that, you know I'm right!
Overall: Zelda Ocarina of Time is a timeless masterpiece! You can't argue with its splendor I'm sorry. This game alone has set so many examples for future games of this genre to follow! It has also made its mark in video gaming history and continues to do so to this day! This game alone is the reason why Zelda Skyward Sword happened in the first place because Ocarina of Time needed a prequel! Zelda Ocarina of Time sets the bar as the golden standard amongst ALL of the Zelda titles and its future titles. Zelda Ocarina of Time will forever be the foundations to every great Zelda game for the upcoming new generation!
