Same game, different year.

User Rating: 8.5 | The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword WII
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was one of the most anticipated titles of 2011, but does it live up to all the hype? the anwer is no. Skyward sword isn't a bad game just more of the same. If you're a newcomer to the Zelda series you will definitely enjoy this game but to veterans of the franchise you will find more of the same.

Skyward Sword starts off in a fantasy land where you live on a flying
city known as Skyloft, but somehow on the day of Links
ceremony for getting his wings Princess Zelda vanishes and is abducted by some evil force. The story doesn't have much substance but the journey is the most exciting part.

The flying aspect of Skyward Sword is not as amazing as it may seem when you see the tv commercial. Flying is satisfying but it could have been so much more immersive instead of having a lot of unecessary control shaking just to make your Loftwing go higher in the air. Exploring all the islands in skyward sword is very exciting and lets your imagination run wild but it is slighlty disappointing there wasn't more places to explore and there wasn't more content to keep you coming back for more. The dungeons are satisfying and very enjoyable to explore but the difficulty in Skyward Sword is very inconsistant leaving some parts of each dungeon extremely easy while others are very difficult. The boss fights aren't very interesting and lack imagination when compared to others games in the Zelda series such as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. A lot of the characters you will encounter during Skyward Sword can be very Childish (especially Eldin Volcano with the moles) which makes the game at times feel fake or gimmicky, so that Zelda can target a younger audience instead of having a middle ground like the older titles.

The graphics are simply stunning for the Wii which seems to feel like a last generation console in 2011. Nintendo definitley deserves a big thumb up from a technical point but needs a good kick in the backside when it comes to the story department. Looks can only get you so far.

The soundtrack to Skyward Sword is good but does lack the atmoshere and urgency of past Zelda games but does enough right to keep the wolves at bay. It would be nice to have a new fully orchestrated Zelda game to the magnitude of Ocarina of Time but at this point Nintendo just don't seem interested to put the hard work in. Skyward Sword doesn't have voice acting either which is quite rediculous for a game being released in the new millenium especially when you look at results that Conker's Bad Fur Bay produced 10 years ago.

There's enough in Skyward Sword to keep you coming back for more but after the first play through of the game you will find Skyward Sword gets repetitve and stale very quickly. The next Zelda game for the Wii U needs some serious upgrades and work done on it or the Legend of Zelda franchise could evaporate very quickly which would be a disgrace to the video game industry.

If you are looking for a new game for the Wii Skyward Sword isn't a bad choice but don't get your hopes too high because you could be very dissapointed. If you have never played a Zelda game this is a great
title for you to pick up and play. People will be divided with this game
and so they should be. It's about time Nintendo get off their backside and stop playing it safe by living off of Ocarina of Times formula. Wii need a change to the Zelda franchise and Wii need it NOW!!!!!!!!
