User Rating: 9.2 | The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap GBA
Lately I'm catching up with some of the classic games that I missed the first time for various reasons. One of these games is the nomen omen legendary "The Legend of Zelda" series. "The Minish Cap" scored 9.1 on GameSpot so why not give it a try? And you know what? It was well worth it.

So as I'm not very into this whole Zelda franchise so not going deep into story and chronology, I'll only say that the game kicks off with Princess Zelda being turned into stone by a powerful evil magician and a little blonde boy dressed in nice green is the only person that can save her and all of the rest of the world. Doesn't sound very original at first but I'd say it's rather a kind of an archetypal story like in great fairy tales, because "The Minish Cap" is just like a fairy tale, and a really great one. As the game progresses you encounter many fantastic friends and foes, both made with excellent artistic design. The game overall is very well designed. You collect numerous items and with each of it there is a new feature that becomes available to you like digging in walls or lighting the candles or running on water and so on. This is given to you one by one after completing various tasks so you can learn to make a good use of all this stuff very naturally. Controlling your character is very user-friendly and takes like five minutes to learn all your moves.

Graphics and sound are also one of the best things about this game. I really didn't expect that much from GBA. Visuals are awesome, everything is simply beautiful, and it's not only backgrounds and characters sprites, also all the effects and animations look fantastic. Sound is very good either. So is the music even if it's sometimes a little bit repetitive.

Besides the main quest there is a million things to do here only to mention catching chickens for one young lady which is quite an entertaining task. There are also very interesting boss fights and many many other gameplay variations bringing the quality of the product up.

"The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap" for me is a suprisingly good game and time spent with it was great fun. This my first Zelda game, I'm loving it and I can't wait to get my hands on "Ocarina of Time".
