Follows the Zelda franchise with a twist

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker takes a different approach at playing the franchise of the game. Instead of following the path of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, it takes the road less taken ( Robert Frost!!). The Wind Waker goes back to the original storyline of saving the princess, however, the princess is not identified until later in the game, adding mystery to the game. Of course one of the main difference between Ocarina and Majora is that the game is set upon the seas. In past games, Link travels the land of Hyrule or Termina in order to reach the designated area. In Wind Waker however, the journey is taken out on the seas with assorted islands all over the place. When compared to Hyrule or Termina, the sea seems to be at least twice as large. Although I did seem to think that travelling from island to island took a bit of time. Each island is unique, and what makes it easier to find is the map. With the right advise, and right equipment, travelling time is cut in half. Wind direction is also important for maximum speed and control.

At first glance, the graphics seem to take a turn for the worst with its cartoon-like take on the game. However, the graphics help Wind Waker create smoothness and allow for bright colour for extra enjoyment. It also allows for interaction between the Gameboy advance and the Gamecube. It may have been difficult for the Gameboy Advance to interact if the graphics were made complicated. Gameplay is based upon past Zelda games which is a constant reminder of how strong the Zelda franchise is. Even though Wind Waker follows the same style of past Zelda games, it still seems completely different. Collecting weapons, defeating the enemies and completing the dungeons are all similar to other Zelda franchises. All weapons return with a slight difference. Instead of finding a hookshot, you will use a grappling hook. It provides the same use, but only to an extent. The hookshot could also be used as a weapon unlike the grappling hook. The megaton hammer also makes a return but is tuned down with cartoonish features. It seems as though the hammer is a flexible rubber-like hammer rather than a metal hammer. Also the ocarina is replaced with a wand called the Wind Waker. It operates in the same way as the Ocarina except for the fact that it is a wand. A new weapon which makes debut is the Deku Leaf. It functions as a parachute and allows for long distance jumping (similar to using a chicken in past games). There are also various items such as a telescope, bombs, boomerang and also item holding bags. These bags contain items such as food, trading items and bait. The music of the Wind Waker is not similar in any way to previous games. All music for this game is unique which give the Wind Waker its own right as being an individual game rather than being apart of the Zelda collection. The wand also conducts different types of music which will have different affects in different circumstances. Also what is excellent is the background music when travelling the seas. Because travelling on the seas is time consuming, the creators of the game have conducted a theme that will not get boring and also goes well with the travelling the ocean theme. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is another great addition to the Zelda Universe with its unique graphics and sound. It allows for an entire different gameplay without losing the Zelda touch that many fans crave.
