Wind waker is a great game, that every zelda fan should play.
At the start the game will seem kind of immature, childish, and the game won’t seem like it’s a Zelda game at all, but by the ending point when you give Gannon the finishing blow, you’ll know this game deserves the title Legend of Zelda. You’ll find yourself woken up by your sister, apparently you have amnesia, and can’t remember it’s your birthday. As you’ll soon find out you are at an age where it is customary to wear green, to honor the Hero of Time, and as usual at some point you will hear the history of the hero of time, and that point is now. After you hear the story you will find, you will find yourself at the middle of the action, as a huge bird comes carrying a girl, and a pirate ship hasting after her, shooting cannon balls with no aim. After some action, your sister will be kidnapped by the bird, and you’ll be giving chase after her with the creepy pirates.
After this one thing leads to another and you’re off to do great deeds, as the new hero of time, the world hanging on your shoulders.
As in most Zeldas there will be plenty of items for the collecting, and each one is key for moving on. Most items are found at dungeons, and must be used and mastered to later on beat that dungeons boss. You will see much of the classical Zelda items, such as the boomerang, bombs, bottles, and the one and only Master Sword. Most of this item have the same functionality. But Windwaker also gives birth to some new items such as the grappling hook, which you will use to steal items from place to place, and swing around from one place to another. The Deku Leaf, which through most of the game will be used as a parachute, and also as a hang glider, it’s also sometimes used to blow wind at enemies. The Wind waker, is one of the most important items in the game, it looks very similarly to a wand, and is used like a conductor’s baton, it controls the wind. Much like the howling stones or Link’s ocarina, you will learn songs that will have important effects in the game. One of this songs can warp you from island to island, another turns night into day and day into night, and one of the most important songs will change the direction of the winds, which is very helpful.
Through the game you will find yourself sailing around the world with a talking sailboat, who calls himself ‘King of Red Lions” who will guide you through most of the game. Basically the world is a chain of islands, so as you get farther into the story you will be sailing the sea using your map and sail, and this is where the Windwaker comes in, your boat will be following the direction of the wind, and you will need to change the direction several time for the ship to be going the way you need to be going. The sailing will get frustrating at times, but you will find that there is more to the sea in this game then you know. You will also find that the islands are full of locations to explore, such as dungeons, fairy caves, towns, fortresses, and a haunted pirate ship.
Wind waker is full of dungeons, that you will be spending plenty of time in, you will find most of this dungeons use a lot of the old Zelda formula. The dungeons, are not the hardest, but neither are they the easiest. Wind waker’s dungeons have a specific element to them, such as fire, ice, wind, nature. The dungeons have many twists and turns, and to some dungeons you will even have to bring a character with you.
There has been much discussion about Wind Waker’s look, and although some people might not like it, you could never see the character’s emotion as much as you can see it in Windwaker. The animations look very good, and the game is polished very nicely. The look fits very well into the story, and the look of Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time would have simply killed this game. This game’s artistic look is unmatched by any other Game cube game.
Music in this game is very much from the original Zelda tunes, but it also brings some new tunes to the mix. The songs come in at the right times, are pretty good, and will pull you into to the game somewhat.
The game itself is pretty easy, and can be beat in about 15-25 hours, but that is without doing the side quests, collections, and treasure maps, which can add about an extra 5-10 hours. You will find that to beat the game completely you will need to beat the game twice. Though some of you might be thinking I’ll just beat this game fast, and skip through what the characters say, you shouldn’t because this game has a very interesting story line, and a lot of what the character’s say may be very important later on.
Though some might not have liked this game, it is a great Zelda game, with high-quality autistics to its great story line. The gamesplay is fun, and it’s what a Zelda game should be like. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is a game worth buying.
