Easiest in the series, but totally amazing.
So let's start with the biggest complaint we heard: Graphics. Despite all that I've heard, I still tried it out. I, too, must confess, I said I didn't want a kiddy Zelda. But then I got the Zelda Collection on GameCube, tried the demo and realised the graphics were really far from relating to the gameplay itself. Over time, I learned to enjoy the graphics as they were and I now can say they are beautiful. The visuals are beautiful, simply beautiful. Despite being cartoony, it feels alive. I learned to love the new look and style this gave to the Zelda series. So graphics..beautiful!
The game controls the same as every 3D Zelda games out there. Basic controls for rolling, swinging your sword, and bla bla bla what not. This hasn't changed since forever and is still apreciated. Easy controls makes it easier to get into the game. You control the camera view, which by the way never but NEVER gets in your way and if it does..just change the point of view! As easy as that. The game introduces some new items to use for our little Hero of Wind. Not to spoil too much though..you know me! I always try to give as much details without giving it out entirely. Some people disliked the sailing, well..alot of people, but I personally don't mind it. Sure it can be long sometimes..even boring..but it gives you the time to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Over the time you will develop something of interest to do while sailing so don't take this as a bad point.
The music remains in the same range as every Zelda games. Songs have been remixed, and believe there are even new songs added to it. The songs you master with the Wind Waker can become anoying over time though, and believe me, you'll be using them ALOT. Specially the one to change the wind's direction so you better grow found of it real soon when you start playing this game. The sound effects seems apropriate, nothing too anoying nor amazing, but it's there and it's well done. And as everyone probably do, I roll around cause it's faster than running. So yes, everytime you roll around you do hear "UH! AH!" each time you perform a roll. Which doesn't bother me since it's rather funny and has become sort of a gimmick in the series for me.
Right now, I realise there isn't much to be said about this game..what's up with me lately? every games seems empty of speech when I review them. Probably because all while being VERY different from other Zelda titles, it is yet the same for everything. But the change of story, change of character for this one game makes it feel all new, brand new and fresh. You saila cross the seas, cross small islands in your path, some villages which feel really warm in your heart. But you feel so alone..alone in the sea..go fishin for treasures, fighting sea monsters (well yeah..sharks and squids and what not). And Tingle is back..that filthy little thief. Why a thief? You will soon understand if you play Wind Waker.
I reccomend this title to any Zelda fan and I would reccomend it to anyone who never played a Zelda game because the gameplay is easy to use, treasures are simple and easy to find (apart from a few specific ones), everything is just easy in this game yet so addictive. But I am far from reccomending it to people who don't like spending 10 or even 30 minutes going somewhere that is basicaly nowhere, cause let's say 98% of your time you will be sailing through the sea. Basicaly, don't get this game if you are impatient.
I'm done, I don't feel like writting more and I don't think it needs more to be said. You got your basics, you now know how it plays..if you don't it's because you never played any Zelda game so..sorry for those who don't know. But the basics of the game is all in here, with a wonderful score for this easy non-challenging game that is yet enjoyable and a great experience of change after so many years of the same thing.
