User Rating: 3.2 | The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Limited Edition) GC
After purchasing Wind Waker I decided that the cartoony graphics and overly childish plot development really did take the series in the wrong direction. From the original Zelda to the Super NES version the Zelda games were very much not about a plot line or constant npc bombardment of mostly redundant and obvious information. Zelda was about the wandering exploration of a game world that allowed you to travel to nearly every place on in its world from the very start (of course there were some, however very few, restricted areas) In the NES and SNES version there was no constant chiding of where to go next by the npc’s, it was all about finding that out yourself. And now for some reason the game designer has decided that either gamers have gotten dumber over the years or that the really enjoy being told what to do every five minutes. The graphics do not help either. While I commend the designer for the amount of detail he tried to put into the cell shading, it still looks like a second rate Disney cartoon. On a more technical level the game is easy and has an ever growing list of items and abilities that make it even easier. I understand that a game should have the capability of being enjoyed by many different ages especially on a system targeted for such. However, that is what difficulty level choices and sub quests are all about. This was as much a failure of a game as the 20 Mario Sunshine’s I have stacked here at my used game store.
