Zelda got captured....again

User Rating: 9.5 | The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess GC
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, as a late addition to the Gamecube’s library, is definitely one of the best games for the system. Like any other Zelda game, you play as Link, and start off in a small town with no items to speak of. You have to slowly talk to NPCs and gain some items that you can use to reach the first temple. This game certainly didn’t stray to far from the core of the Zelda series which is a good thing in many ways. The wrench that was thrown into the mix was the addition of the “Twilight Zone”. When entered into this area Link is transformed into a wolf that is prophesized of a great hero. This in no way lessens the game play, in fact, it adds a nice mix to the game that challenges the player to figure out puzzles that are out of the ordinary for a Zelda game, such as jumping large distances and having to dig to find certain enemies or items.

The story to this game obviously has link as the hero and Zelda has been taken captive by a dark character. The neat part of this story is how the two worlds, the world of light and the world of the twilight, are battling each other to be the dominant force in the world, and how the races in both worlds are suffering from this battle. The story has a few twists within it, but essentially follows the Zelda curve of, get to Zelda, defeat big boss, save the world.

The only part of this game that I found disappointing was the relative ease of the temple bosses. Obviously if you stand in one spot for long enough they will kill you, but if you follow the steps needed to beat them, the bosses hold little threat to you, especially since most of them are too slow to hurt you anyways. On the other hand, it is nice to not be constantly dying in boss battles, and having to go through the maze filled temples again and again, just to die again. If you have a Gamecube, or a Wii, this is a definite purchase as it is a fun game, that will last you for at least 20 hours, with the multiple side missions, mini games, and the immersive main story.
