Completely overrated. I'm really pissed I spent $40 on this.

This game is COMPLETELY overrated. After reading all these reviews, I was hoping for something amazing, something that would totally knock my socks off. This wasn't it. Twilight Princess doesn't really seem like anything to me except a much worse version of A Link to the Past.
As far as gameplay goes, Twilight Princess is fun, albeit slightly disappointing. Link runs unbelievably slow, and as this is a vast game, this can quickly become tiresome as you must run through wide-open expanses of field, being stalked by giant birds flying overhead that are constantly dive-bombing your head. However, this can be cured by either riding your horse or traveling in wolf form, although horseback is faster (until you gain the ability to teleport, that is). The game progresses like most other Zelda games, with you going to various villages doing whatever, until a dungeon is brought to your attention. Then you must successfully navigate the dungeon and beat its boss to continue the game.
Combat is extremely simple: swing the remote to make Link attack, and that's about it. Once you start unlocking abilities, however, we are presented with a problem. Some of the abilities work fine - Z target an enemy and then press A to execute a jump attack, for instance - but then there are your abilities that just will not co-operate. The do a shield thrust, which will allow you to stun enemies and reflect projectiles (extremely useful), you have thrust the Nunchuk forward. However, swinging the Nunchuk performs the all-powerful Spin Attack, and 9/10 times when I thrusted the Nunchuk, it resulted in a Spin Attack. To succesfully execute the shield thrust, I normally had to thrust the Nunchuk towards the sensor bar so hard that my elbow would pop (needless to say, I didn't use the shield thrust much).
There are plenty of items to collect, but you've seen most of them before, and you'll hardly use most of them. One interesting item allows you to control statues. You'll use it in the dungeon you obtain it in, and it's boss, and a few side quests. That's it. And that's how most of these items work. There are several very unique items in this game, but when it comes down to it, all you're really ever going to need is your bow, some bombs, the clawshot (TP's version of the hookshot), and your sword & shield. Bottles are hardly even needed in this game, I beat the final boss without using a single of my four fairys. Also, if you think you're going to get some epic upgrade to your arrows or sword that will help you defeat the final boss, think again. The only upgrade you get to your sword fills the blade with light, which allows you to dispel shadows and deal extra damage to shadow creatures. Nifty, huh? Well, there's a catch--you can only use it in the Twilight Realm (the games alternate dimension), and you only visit the Twilight Realm...once.
Graphics are very nice, for a Wii game, though it's nothing that will knock your socks off. Enemy designs are good, although you'll pretty much be fighting the same types of enemies throughout the game. Bosses, on the other hand, are oustanding in their design and creativity, and are satisfyingly epic, though disappointingly simple for the most part. The one irk I did have with the graphics is that the game is very dark in terms of lighting, and there are several bland, faded, choppy environments that seem to blend together.
Sound is probably one of my biggest issues with the game. There is zero talking from characters, and while I love reading, I do not want to read a video game. I'm fine with Link not speaking, but the rest of the characters have lots of chattering going on, and voices would be nice. The only sound even in the game is background music and sound effects. Background music is all very nice and nostalgic, with classic TLoZ music. Sound effects, however...are AWFUL. The majority of the sound effects come through the Wiimote speaker. Enough said.
Overall, it's a fun, lengthy game, but it's not the groundbreaking, jaw-dropping, ZOMG! experience I was hoping for. I've heard several people say it's a big, flashier version of Ocarina of Time. I've never played OoT, but to me, it basically seemed a whole lot like A Link to the Past, just not as awesome.
