Lord of the Rings: Return of the King is the best game in the series of Lord of the Rings games. The Two Towers was a great game, and this one has numerous improvements that make it a much better game. The game play has improved from the last game. First, there are more characters. In the Two Towers, one could play as Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli. However, in this game, one can play as the original three as well as Gandalf, Sam, Frodo, and other secret characters. Secondly, there are new combos to try out. The enemy banes are a bit improved, as the player only needs to press R after parrying, instead of pressing A and R simultaneously after parrying (such as in the Two Towers). There are three separate story lines, as well as two bonus levels that can be unlocked. The graphics have been taken up a notch in this game. Mainly, the characters in the game greatly resemble their real-life counterparts, unlike in the Two Towers, in which the characters somewhat looked like their real-life counterparts. Explosions, orc blood, and other special effects have also been improved. The sound of the game is excellent, featuring the same music used in the movies. The musical mood changes throughout levels as enemies attack or the player is travelling to a location. The menu music is also excellent. The game takes several hours to play through, and it is possible to play through the levels in a co-op mode. Mainly, there is not much of a reason to play through the game again after beating it. Overall, this is a great improvement to the Two Towers. People who enjoyed playing the Two Towers should try playing this game.
