The lord of the rings the return of the king is a great game and is worth the money you pay for, whether it is 50.00$ or
5.00$ you will not be dissappointed, the only sad thing is it
is gone before you want to say goodbye to this wonderful
world that the one and "only" Tolkien made.(with some help
from PJ of course)
The lord of the rings the return of the king is the third installment
in the very successful trilogy, and the second game made by
eagames. the lord of the rings is no new thing to fans of
the story because it has been around for more then
40 years!!!! even longer if you count the great story
he was already thinking and writing in his younger years,
it has also had a huge following of fans for a really long
time, but it has gotten a huge boost in fans since
Peter Jackson and new line cinema released this already
awesome epic on to the big screen and has changed the
course of history forever.
(OK maybe not that much but it is still a DANG!!! good movie)
now on to the review..........
You start off the game watching a nice movie and you already
know what to expect from the game, and then you gain
control of gandalf at the battle of helm's deep with
the fighting uruk-hai all around you and you think to
yourself.......HOLY CRAP!!! this is so awesome!!!!
but then you know that you must stop looking at all
of the beautiful graphics and get into the action.
To start of the review the controls are quite easy "X" is
the speed attack "triangle" is the power attack and
"O" is the physical and finishing attack, "square" is
the parry button, and then you think "maybe this will
get old after a while" but trust me it won't and it will
justify your 50.00$ purchase(at least it did for me).
the graphics are amazing and probably pushes the PS2 to
its limits, from the the flashing light of gandalfs staff to the
the orc being finished with a quick but deadly blow from
gimli's axe, the character models are pretty nice too
and really make you believe you are in the LOTR world
the gameplay is SWEET!!!, hacking and slashing orcs has
never been more fun since........well ever!!!!, you also
have a nice diverse stroy line with three paths to play. you
can be gandalf, the three hunters, and samwise gamegee,
and each a diffrent way to play, gandalf kills some
uruk-hai and then goes to the realm of gondor to help
the free people of middle earth stand against the
overwhelming and threatening shadow of mordor.
and then there is the three fearsome hunters going
through the horrible paths of the dead where no man
has ever gotten out alive, they also have different playing
styles, gimli has more of a in your face kinda thinking
and will hack you before you can say "Mommy!!!"
although he couldn't shoot a bow if it saved his life!!
that is why he has throw axes, they may not be as strong
as an arrow from a well trained marksmen but it can still
kill a minion of sauron, legolas is of course a very very
well trained archer and could shoot you in the
eye 50 yards away while blindfolded and his
hands behind his back(NO!!!, really he can)
but he is also a good fighter, maybe not as good as a
mighty axe strike to the head from a dwarf with a grudge
but he gets the job done, and now last but not least
aragorn is a balance between speed and power,
with a bow in his right hand and Narsil in his left
and a heart fighting for his people
he is a force to be reckoned with.
and then there is the path of sam who is a stout and sturdy
little hobbit that is stronger then he looks and will
fight for frodo to the death, his levels are a little more
about puzzle solving but are still action packed.
the sound is amazing from the clash of steel of a sword to
the sound of the nazgul screaming in the air, but what really brings the characters to life is the voice's of the real life
actors in the game!!!! and sir Ian Mckellen narrating the story.
the value of the game really matter how much you love this
world that tolkien and PJ made, if you like slaying
orcs and killing trolls then you will play it time and time
again even after you beat this game that takes 10 to15
hours to beat, and even if you are a casual gamer you will
still play a little bit even after you beat this game.
the games are great the movies are great and the books
are even more great it is just to bad that it has to end
after the curtains close on this wonderful epic that
many people have put there lives into.(namely Tolkien)
but this is not the end as long as people still love the
games the movies and the books, and it will forever be
one of the great storys of our time.
controlls 9.0
