Good for a rental, like I did.

User Rating: 7.9 | The Matrix: Path of Neo PS2
This is a great game, it really is, especially for those who've seen and liked the films. I am a Matrix nut (My 10 DVD Ultimate Matrix Collection should arrive next week), and this game is very faithful to it. If you've never seen the movies before, though, do yourself a favor and see them. Not only are they amazingly done; they're also integral to knowing what the hell you're doing in every sequence of the game, because all of the videos are montages, not giving you nearly enough info. if you've never seen the movies.

The controls are just awesome. They work so fluidly with Neo, and you can do almost anything he can do (save for the flying, although you do see Neo fly a bit) and do it well and flawless.

This is a brawler, no doubt about that, but they'll also try and work other kinds of sequences as well. In the beginning, it's stealth, just like in The Matrix, when you're sneaking from cubicle to cubicle to avoid the Agents and the police. Also, there's a rail shooting sequence from the helicopter you save Morpheus in. And after the battle with Smith in the train station, you come into this glitchy (as in Matrix glitchy) train station, where you have to get out. That's about all of those special sequences, and they're in the first film's area.

Only place I really resented was the Merovingian's level. Sure, the beginning is fun, where you take the weapons off the walls in that lobby area from the first movie, but then it all goes to hell when the Merovingian forces you into his "puzzle" he created. It's no puzzle; it's just annoying. Going through all those upside-down rooms and stuff, with fire ants that won't die if you don't use fire, and a final boss that's so frustrating to beat isn't what I call "fun".

If you're still reading (I doubt that anyone is, because it's just summed up in the review deck), rent it. It's a good play for a while, but then, it just gets boring. In fact, as soon as you beat the game it gets boring! Rent it, like I did, and everybody wins a little.
