If you're a Matrix fan, go for it. If not, give it a shot anyways. You'll still like it.

I personally thought that ETM was a decent game. Now.... I can only say this because I love the trilogy and anything associated with it, I'm going to be a fan of. That being said, PoN was a much better game although alot more complicated and in some ways, not what I thought it would be. Here's the review:

Graphics: For the most part, if you're looking at the gameplay graphics, they're fairly good. I don't really have too many complaints against them. Now, the in-game cutscenes are **** I don't know how Morpheus can look almost photo realistic in the first cutscene of the game where you're choosing pills and then you look at Neo in the game, and it will hardly resemble him. Especially when you look at how they did the final battle CGI and how **** it looked. How can that look so damn good but the rest look rushed? The backrounds are a good representation to the movie sets and are just as destructable as seen in the movie. The Lobby Shootout and the Chateau Fight are a testament to this.

Gameplay: For me and any Matrix fan, this is where the game should shine although it's not perfect. Playing this game is like actually taking control of Neo in one of the movies. The "wire-fu" is done very well. Neo's moves actually look like stuff that'd he do in the movie. Nothing is more satisfying than when you can pull off one of his long "special combos" and watch as he begins to pummel someone with his fists in super slo-mo then run up his torso and finish him with a jaw-breaking kick to the face. I can't stress enough how cool the combos in this game actually look. They're in another league compared to ETM. And there is a ridicous amount of different moves that you can do so it doesn't get old fast. Now, like I said, all is not perfect. It actually takes alot of skill to pull of the fanciest combos in the game. I still can't figure out how to do his "The One" combo 100% of the time.

The weapon combat is something to behold too. Matrix fans will love the way you can use the poll in the Burly Brawl against the Smiths. It's extremely versatile and coupled with the slo-mo scenematics, it's awesome.

Ok, the negatives of gameplay. First, although firearm combat can be cool, it's cumbersome most of the time and compared to hand-to-hand combat, is useless. Battles that you expect to be epic like the Burly Brawl....aren't because of the fact that you aren't really facing hundreds of Smiths, but only a handful while the others circle around you. The Super Burly Brawl just sucked. No depth to the fighting in that final battle just a couple of different button presses you can use to attack Smith. It was highly repetitive. Also, for Matrix fans (and you may appreciate this and you may not), the story branches off into enirely different directions than you may think and it adds alot to certain scenes. For example, when you fight Smith in the subway, after he gets run over by the train, Neo doesn't just run away like in the movie. He hops on another train and has to do a little puzzle deal on it, then run around the subway station tunnels after he gets off before he gets to the point where he's running from agents. Obviously, this was done to create longetivity to the game but it makes the game feel like it's a different entity from the movie. There are a ton of instances of this. Let's just say, don't expect the game to go down the exact same storyline as the three movies. Whether that's good or not is up to you. That reminds me of something else: The elusive "alternate ending". All I will say about it is that it is something that you'll least expect and that you'll either love it, or hate it but don't expect a movie ending to the game if you catch my drift.

Sound/Music: The one thing about the game I hate. There is no, and I repeat, NO license Matrix music in this game. It's an enirely new score and it blows. I can't think of too many cuts of music I like to the game. The final battle with Smith especially sucks. In the movie, you've got the choir singing with the orchestra playing an "End of the World" theme but in the game, it's some shitty little jazzy tune. Doesn't fit the final battle at all. The voices in the game, save Morpheus's voice, are done by different actors than in the movie. Now, although they're damn close, I'm enough of a fan to notice it. They aren't bad by any means but I will always know that they aren't authentic and that will always eat at me. The gunfire, hits, collisions, destructables all sound as they should though.

Control: Although at times it's complicated to pull of the tougher combos, the controls are pretty much responsive and do as you want them to.

Bottom Line: Like I said before, if you're a Matrix fan, you SHOULD love this game. It's the next best thing to actually being Neo in one of the movies and it recreats the movies, battles, and fighting very acurately. Even if you aren't a fan of the movies, it's still a cool enough game for you to hit up. Think of it this way, it's miles above Enter the Matrix....
