A sea trading game from old times!

User Rating: 8.5 | The Patrician PC
The Patrician is a historical strategy game, where you play a merchant in the Hanseatic league. You deal in goods, property, and production of goods. The goal is to expand your company and "take over the world" so to speak. You earn rank and popularity, which allows you to climb the social ladder and gain access to new areas of the game. The main focus of the game is trading, with your ships, and your trading offices. When you've traded sufficiently with foreign ports, you will be granted the possibility of building a local trading office, and buildings that produce goods and/or property to rent out.

I enjoy how you can take full control of the economy in the league, though the computer players also mix things up. I find that the most fun is supplying my home town (Lubeck) well, and eventually being elected leader of the Hanseatic League (which also happens to be the ultimate goal of the entire game). But before you can do that you have to become Lord Mayor.

You will be attacked by pirates, and can choose if you want to fight, flee, or let the computer take charge of that sequence. You will also receive offers of noble and not so noble causes (such as marriage and hiding goods).

All in all - I think it's a great game. If you enjoy business strategy it's definitely worth looking into!
