Pirates Of Dark Water possesses some of the best Genesis graphics we ever saw, and although marred by some rather dodgy animation and sprite movement, they saved what would have been an otherwise throw-away platformer. One of the most interesting things about this game is the ability to choose a different character to tackle each level. The only problem here is the that the chick is too fast and playing as her is quite frustrating. Having said that, the 3 different characters have their own strengths and weaknesses and its down to your decision on who will get you through the level best. Game-play is your standard hack and slash fare, but the interesting level design means getting through them is no mean feat. The levels themselves are varied and brightly coloured, and have astonishing depth. Yes Pirates Of Dark Water has certainly stood the test of time.
