I never thought it possibly, but sound and style completely makes this game!
User Rating: 8.2 | The Simpsons: Hit & Run PS2
I have a clear policy when playing games, they either have to be innovative, weird, or simply really good, but, once in a while there comes a game around that completely kicks my theory’s backside. Simpson’s: Hit & Run does exactly that, it offers absolutely nothing new to the style of game, it’s not weird at all, and it’s not very good, but its incredibly fun. As far as gameplay goes, think Grand Theft Auto, with no shooting, and minimal fighting, and a lot more driving. All characters are simply the same, the walk as fast, run as fast, jump as high, and kick back just as much as the next one, nothing special here. The cars are fairly different, some are fast, some are tough, and some handles like a dream, again nothing special here. The game is mostly just racing around Springfield, where you either have to race someone, destroy someone’s car, escape from someone, or drive around and pick up stuff, yet again, nothing special at all. The special on the other hand starts when you try and look around Springfield, because as soon as you notice the small details of the game, you start feeling like its actually Springfield. It isn’t especially smooth, and the textures aren’t very detailed, but hey, the same goes for the actual series. But, as going for the whole Simpson’s look and feel, the developers have hit the nail on the head. The outstanding part of the game is undoubtedly the sound, which is absolutely stunning, all the characters are voiced by the actual Simpson’s crew, and not only that, but they did a fantastic job making each character about a 100 different things to say outside the cut scenes. Here we’re talking massive amounts of one-liners, as for crashing into something, each character has about 20 different things to say, and when crashing into another driver, there’s even more lines, the same goes for hitting a person, speeding up, jumping through glass, an even when passing someone narrowly, that’s insane. As far as music goes, there isn’t much to say, the music is bland and forgettable, and the main theme isn’t done right either. This all adds up to game that’s either very funny, or extremely boring, which all depends on how much you enjoy the Simpson’s TV-Series.
