I only got this because I wanted a racing game and I love the Simpsons...
Montgomery Burns has released his own public transport that comprises of irradiated buses that will make your taxying of people a slight chore.
The people of Springfield then gather, and decide that if they manage to muster up US$1,000,000, then they can buy the 'monopoly' of public transport back from Montgomery Burns. This is the basis of the plot. Nothing much here.
The graphics were "O.K." back in 2001. They are simply terrible now. The only thing I can think of is that they are cel-shaded, but I can't be sure of that since so many things in the game don't look cel-shaded at all, as they look like flat, pixelated images have been placed on top of a 3-dimensional object.
There are 4 types of gameplay: Road Rage, Sunday Drive, Mission Mode, and Head-to-Head.
Road Rage is the main story-line mode of play. This is the only way the player will be able to make the US$1,000,000 mark. This can be quite tough, though. As you benchmarks, you can get either a)new vehicles and drivers or b)new maps. There are 17 vehicles and 6 maps in total. Hitting the US$1,000,000 mark is VERY hard, simply because it takes so long. My personal record for one run of Road Rage is around US$34,000. My 2-9 high scores are around US$16,000. So expect to become bored many times throughout the game.
Sunday Drive is a general roaming game mode. You can still pick up people like the good samaritan that you are, but this time you are driving them for free, and you do not have a time limit. This is a good game mode to learn new short-cuts or dupes (there are quite a few).
Mission Mode is straightforward. There are 10 missions, and you have to complete them all. I would say that 9 of the 10 missions are very easy. This is juxtaposed by one of the missions (can't remember which one), which I remember to be VERY hard.
Head-to-Head is where the real fun is at. This is the only worth-while game mode once you get all the characters and all the maps. You have to race against one friend, transporting people from place to place. You can set a time limit (15 minutes, for example). If you are transporting a person, and the person you are playing against touches your car, he gets the passenger. This makes for some quite fun situations.
The ending of the game is probably the worst ending I have ever experienced in a game.
All in all, expect to be bored throughout the entirety of the Road Rage game mode. But if you unlock everything, then get a friend and play Head-to-Head.
