Get Ready For A Pleasant Twist On The Sims 2!!!
Its based on a crew of Sims (1-6 crewmates) that become washed ashore on an uncharted island and must learn to fulfill their needs there or discover a way to escape.
The Game's main tasks include: harvesting food and other resources; exploring the island(s); keeping up with your sims needs and discovering the secrets that the islands hold. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? In the beginning you get into full flow of the game a bit too easily, there is such a large amount of resources that you barely need to leave the first beach! However after a while the game seems to slow, as you begin to unlock more motives that you need to look after. For example at the start of the game the only motives you need to focus on are Sleep, Hunger and Bladder. The Game gives you a large amount of freedom in the beginning, allowing you to decide how many sims you wish to control; what their bonus skills are depending on their jobs and also what clothes they wear. However, as you continue further into the game you realise that there is no particular point of spending a long time deciding on clothes as they get torn rather easily in the first place; forcing you to craft new clothes. This is the same for skills, some of them (logic, mechanic, cooking) can fill up extremely fast however others (creativity, charisma) can take some time to gain. There is no problem with this but the ones that you need most often are the ones that are easy to build, meaning that there is no sense of achievement when you, for example, discover a plan for a raft and realise you can build it there and then instead of going off and advancing your sim.
This isn't to say that it is a very easy game, because if you wish to live comfortably on the island you must harvest a LOT of resources to establish a good island home. In conclusion, I believe that the Sims 2 Castaway is a breath of fresh air for consoles. Although there arenor bugs apparently (although my game has shown no signs of this yet) and some slightly grainy graphics I believe that the Sims 2 Castaway is a good game for die hard Sims fans AND others who are just getting into the flow of The Sims 2.
Graphics - 7 - slightly grainy graphics and minor glitches
Sound - 9 - an abundance of tropical music
Gameplay - 8 - anoriginal idea that builds on the mystery of the islands
