Running a hotel is hard work. Playing video games shouldn't be.
The Sims 2 for DS instantly has you believe you'll be running your own feature-packed hotel, trying to gain fame and fortune exploring the wide-open sim world.

This is not the case.

The Sims 2 for the Nintendo DS is exactly what video games should not be like. It's likely you bought this game or are reading about it simply because it's a Sims game, and the original PC titles would have you believe you're looking at what should be a quality piece of work.
As you may or may not know, Sims 2 for DS sees you as a new hotel owner. Your objective is naturally, to run your own hotel, develop it, and make sure your people are a happy, content bunch.

The story in the game makes absolutely no sense. For the first part, a mob boss commandeers your largest guest room and sets you monotonous little tasks such as walking to the store, buying something and walking back, waiting until nightime and going into the desert or picking up a piece of furniture and placing it in a guest's room, etc, etc.

The problem is, as you can tell, that none of these tasks are actually fun, or remotely sim-related. This is a broken hotel sim with a 'The Sims' theme slapped on at the last minute. There is little to no variation between the tasks you are set and that's all the game has you doing.

If the mind-numbingly repetitive missions have not yet eradicated any remaining value to be found within the game, the poor interface should be enough to put you off. The game is plagued with countless graphical glitches, bugs, and pointless little additions in an attempt to provide a realistic hotel sim experience. Occasionally you'll get a call asking you to fix a guest's plumbing, and there's no way to fix it, nor is there actually any problem. It's things like these that clearly showcase the effort EA have put into developing what should be a solid, enoyable game.

There is no fun or real novelty value to be found withing in the game. The mini-games are tedious and uninteresting, the story is lacklustre, and the overall interface leaves much to be desired. The SIms experience is not to be found here.
