A great PC game that seems to fall flat on it's face in the Gamecube version.

User Rating: 5.8 | The Sims GC
I'm a fan of simulation-themed games: I love Animal Crossing, Populous, and even enjoyed The Sims on the PC a bit. But it seems that when EA made the jump from the PC to the GC, something went terribly wrong.

Noticable right away is that the game's menus are not operated with the analog stick, but rather the flimsy Gamecube D-Pad. This disastrous choice causes discomfort in operating the menus, and in many cases, entering modes not wanted to be entered.

The loading times are excrutiating, as it seems that every choice leads to a five-minute wait for the option to load. Plus, the customization that has made The Sims such a staple in simulation games is very bare and minimal in this Gamecube version. The controls are so awkard that building a house and placing things in it is entirely cumbersome, and even controlling your Sims, which is very easy with a mouse-click on the PC, feels entirely unsmooth.

Couple those things with the things that were abhored in tfhe PC version (which are still present in this version), and you have yourself a very mediocre, disappointing game. One positive note about the game though is that it does have very soothing orchestral music. But after hearing the five whole songs in the game two dozen times, even that gets old.
