User Rating: 6.3 | The Sims XBOX
So, here we have The Sims for Xbox, a conversion from the fastest selling PC game. One of the first things you'll notice about this game is that it has a different graphics engine. Not a great one at that, but it's fine for the type of game we're playing. Another thing that you'll notice, if you're a player of the PC version is that it's very similiar. You can't go downtown, on vacation or become a superstar, but its all good none the less. One thing there is though is an new mode called 'Get a Life'. There are objective based missions and you must complete each one before moving on the next. And in doing so unlocks new items in buy mode and two player games. The two player games are great, you and a friend can manage the same household or see who can cook the fastest. (Don't worry, its better than it sounds). The sound, well, isn't really that good at all. It was fine back in 2000 when the PC version first came out, but this is just recycled audio and can get annoying if you've been hearing the same byte for three years. The controls on the other are brilliant and you use the controller's directional pad to access menus. You use the left thumbstick for the in-game cursor and the right one for rotating and zooming in with the camera. To be honest I don't know if this is value for money. You might want to play 'Get a Life' through twice, but that's probably about it. If you're an avid player of the PC version it will take some getting used to with the directional pad being used to access your needs and so forth. And there is also a limit on how much items you can buy for your home although that isn't including Build mode. But, if you've never played The Sims on PC before, give it a try on Xbox, but be warned, you will be addicted for months on end.
