You know something? Fate is funny. Who would've thought that when my little brother got The Spongebob Squarepants Movie for Christmas he asked for one of the most over-looked games of 2005. I still don't understand why this game is so appealing. It isn't as complex as R&C, or as funny as Jak, but it is just very fun. It is hard to describe the awesomeness of this game. I guess it is the simplicity and old-school feeling of it all. And you can tell that it is not targeted just to kids either. Especially when you have a move called the "a** smash" (no seriously they actually call it that and censor the language). The gameplay is really what is engaging about this game. Even the driving sequences are cool. The voice overs are very well done but I am sad to report that Hevy Iron got rid of the awesome cutscenes in favor of cheesy slideshows that show pics from the movie. Even the difficulty hits the right spot. At the start I felt that the game was simple. A little too simple. But about 20-45 minutes in the game it wiped the floor with me and left me crying for my mom more than a few times. I especially like how the whole main menu is in the puase screen. You can warp from one level to another in the middle of another level. The upgrade system is also a nice touch but there just aren't enough moves to upgrade and I found it a bit easy. I also like how, to make sure you work istead of breezing through the game, you are required to beat a certain percent of the game. The unlockables are cool too. Especially if you like Spongbob like me. I recommend this gam to anyone who is looking for a simple diversion from the norm. This game is cool, simple, original, and a nice quick fix.
