The game’s choice system is great and truly fresh, but the rest of gameplay supporting it is overly simplistic. The level designs are constantly intriguing and the narrator’s witty comments are enough to make this game a joy to play, but in the end there isn’t much you can actually do besides looking around (with not much worth observing), walking (through narrow paths) and pressing a few buttons.
The voice-acting of the narrator is excellent and nearly everything he says is amusing to hear, although in order to explore all the different paths you have to replay the game many times, which results in hearing him repeat some of the earlier sentences over and over again. The music is particularly well implemented and adds a great deal of ambiance to the game.
Overall, The Stanley Parable is a funny, clever and original game, that’s not as engrossing or as profound as it seems to think it is. Be sure to play the free demo first, which is also very good and 100% different from the main game (my score for the "value" of this game also took into account the time I spent playing the free demo).
