I didn't think it would be as good as it is.
I was really surprised by this game. The Gamespot review makes it sound like a second-rate shooter and, quite frankly, the back of the box of the game does little to tell you about what make this game so incredibly good.
The action is great. And the game controls are good. The environments are really spooky.
But what makes this game truly great is the story that is developed through the mixture of flashbacks and ghostly visitations. It's these things that make the game so grisly and creepy and, in my experience, so creatively fresh. All the touches come together to make it great: Dr. Killjoy and Hermes, phones ringing with disembodied voices on the other end.
And the game play is varied to: there are some minor puzzles, lots of action, mini-tasks, and also chances in the game to have you choices effect the outcome.
This game was a truly pleasant (should I say unpleasant?) surprise.
