scarey and disturbing

User Rating: 8.1 | The Suffering PS2
If you were to have a list of the top ten most freaky and scarey games then the suffering is more than likely to be there. This game certainly earns its mature rating as it includes lots of foul language and gory violence. If you like those sort of games then do yourself a favour and buy this game.

You play as Torque. A death row inmate who has gone into the prison for supposedly killing his family. Your main objective throughout the game is to escape the prison from the deadly creatures that have broke into the prison and causing havoc by killing everyone. As you play through the game you will see flashbacks/visions that torque is having. these are always of his wife and kids. These visons help to tell the story very well and they are always very interesting to watch. The monsters and creatures are very wierd and scarey. There are some that have large swords for hands while there are others who have lethal injections and can kill you that way. They are all very well presented and its what makes the game very scarey. weapons range from shivs to tommy guns. The Revolver is the most basic and reliable gun to use.

The colours are great and suit the tone of the game very well. The blood is extremly red and it looks very realisitc. The game is dark for most of the game but now and again you will see very bright yellows that just looks very gritty and freaky. The character models and environments are nothing which is going to make you jump out of your seat and say 'wow' but they are relitavley ok and dont look bad.

When you are alone and there is nothing there the music is very quiet and ambient. Sometimes it compelty silent. When you are in a middle of a fight with the creatues the music is louder and faster making you more on edge. The voice talent is fine but its a shame that the main character, Torque doesnt say one word.

The suffering has given the survival horror series a kick back into action with more action packed gameplay. A recomended buy to anyone mature enough to play it.
