If you like horror games, "The Suffering" is definitely worth a try. This game sets you in an evil infested prison on a remote island and immediately throws you into all of the chaos. There are many dark chambers and reclusive areas to explore, all the while giving the player an adrenaline pump of creepy audio and visuals. Emphasis on the visuals. The level designs are pretty good. There's a nice buffet of locations ranging from the entirety of the prison to outdoor caves and wilderness. This game is more about the horrors of the island itself than just the prison. Upon completion, I really felt I saw all of Carnate Island's dark and hidden secrets. There are only a handful of different enemies, but they are done with such force and great detail that I didn't mind seeing them over and over again. "The Suffering" does a good job of creating back story, myth, and legend. You get journals that provide detail on certain places and enemies, all with some sort of interesting lore. There's a decent range of weapons and ammo/health items are plentiful, which can be a bore for the hardcore gamer. Inventory is easily accessible through a popup screen display. Some cool features are the option to play in first-person mode, the beast transformation, and the option to play the game certain ways to get 3 different endings. Its a good or evil thing. The game also has some pretty sweet bonus material including a documentary on haunted prisons and a behind the scenes feature.
