This game takes some of the coolest aspects of Resident Evil and combines them with some of the creepy atmospheric aspects of Silent Hill. The action is definitely the best part of the game as you command Torque, a tortured killer sent to death row. Its not entirely clear just how terrible of a man Torque really is, but one thing for sure the island prison that he is sent to makes him one bad a** dude. Your objective is basically to get out of prison and off the island all without being maimed to death by any one of the number of horrifying creatures being spawned on the island. You get to play with shiv's, shotguns, pistols (one and two at a time), good ol' Tommy Gun (gangsta style), flamethrower, and many different kinds of explosives. This game makes for a fast paced thrill ride where its shoot or be sliced and diced. The one down side to the game has to lie in the fact that the creatures you face get to be very repetitive over time. Each of the creatures feature a type of execution method as their theme. So you end up with monsters throwing poison needles at you, sword arms chasing you trying to cut you down to size, huge uglies with firing squads on their backs trying to blast you to kingdom come, and burrowers coming from beneath to whip chains at your precious head. The few types of creatures that are available are cool with plenty of style, but after a few levels you have seen them all and they dont vary their attack style any. There is also a lack of challenging bosses throughout this game. You do have to beat down a few cool ones such as Dr. killjoy who will reveal some interesting info about your character, but none of them are very difficult. Overall this game rocks though. Its creepy style, harrowing action, multitude of weaponry to play with, fittingly dark and eerie graphics and sounds make this a must play for any survival horror fans out there. The game also come with a DVD extra called Prison is Hell to get you in the mood to play the game. Definitely watch it before starting up Torque's quest.
