User Rating: 7.7 | The Thing XBOX
You walk into the snowy tundra hoping to save those damn team members and leave for evac, but you know what, you don't. You come with your squad, you tried to be a hero and let the mission be on stakes. You come by yourself and leave you team members on board and let them return on their lives, but something goes horribly wrong. When you remember the UFO ship, you think it was all of a joke, but it wasn't. Your mates are actually... infected... And you have to leave this snowy tundra.

The Thing is actually a hard one to described. Since this game was released several years ago, it's hard to review a game so very long ago. In this review, I review it as it was a new game in that day, and see if it is good at that time period. Some of you may find it a horrible game today, but really is a great game to play for a classic horror game. The story is, honestly no matter what the time period is on a story, just bad. Although, the presentation of the game's combat system is really ahead of it's time. In this review, you will find that this game is really the orginal Resident Evil game wanted for a very long time.

The story, what I said, is really horrible. You will blast your gun through pointless missions, which is really fun, but you will have no idea what the heck is going on. The story is so flat that you will have no point into playing another round of poker ever again. The only answer to seek into this game is where the Thing even came from. The missions, however, can be very fun with the horrible, and funny, voice acting the squad member will apply for your pleasure. You main character will have that John Wane style of acting tough, which will really sound lame, but your team mates is the only reason why the game is really so good. Anyways, you will fight your way through levels of buildings and the snowy desert and proceed to the next. It's easy but really get's repetitive.

The graphics is just average. The particle effects are astounding, and the gore is ever so appreciating to playing other gory games in the past. With great character models, you will never find it confusing who is what and what is who in this marvelous game. However, the sameness in enemies is very similar, and at times can get dull with the same creature to kill, The Thing. Sometimes it can be so bad, it will be like killing a million headcrabs in one level, honest!

The sound is maybe the best part of a horror si-fi game. The sound is this game is nothing short of spectacular. You will blast and release death threating weapons that will each preform a marvelous aftermath that will let you smile in your own very seat. You will find the game having great voice acting, in that time remember, and very, very great presentation on how the story will move on with the acting. Your character should not be disapointed on how this runs with learning of The Thing.

The gameplay is a very average playing field on how you maneveur on your enemies and maybe your friends. You will have two firing mechanisms, first person and third person. In first person, you will need to hold down your "A" button and aim with your "Left Thumbstick". This view is really important in the harder levels since the levels of difficutly is only known for their aiming. In the third person view, you will have a region that will let you auto-aim your opponents and let you hit them in that region that will provide you a firing distance. Sure, the third person view is surly a long shot, but the first person view is really a life savior since you need to use the flame thrower to destroy the middle and high classes of The Things. Another good point is switching your guns view. It will freeze time to let you switch your guns and items, and with your squad team. You, at the end, should not be ashamed at this point of the view.

In conclusion, you should really buy this classic a try. This game should really the the best classic the Xbox have to offer for a scary horror game, but this game was released on all systems that really makes an average game nobody will remember. With great gameplay, sound, and graphics, you should never alienate a great game like The Thing itself.
