Legend and Anniversary join the playstation 3 in this trilogy release with Underworld!
The Good
- 3 Full Length games on one disk
- Lots of trophy support (over 100)
- Anniversary's graphical upgrade is great!
- $39.99
The Bad
- Camera gets a little wacky at some climbing points
- Lara doesnt always jump and grab where you want
- Legend's graphical upgrade is lacking!
Tomb Raider has been a classic gaming series for just about 15 years now. There have been 8 different game releases as well as a PSN downloadable game. Crystal Dynamics decided to take the last three of the next gen series (Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld) and put them on one disk.
Anniversary is the remake of the very first Tomb Raider, and although it follows the story almost exactly, they've added a few more little ideas to connect it to Underworld and Legend, which is cool. In all the games, the camera can be somewhat wacky at certain times, but onyl occasionally depending on the situation.
Legend is technically Tomb Raider 7, and starts the saga on Lara in search for her mother. This game lacks the graphical upgrade that Anniversary recieved, which is disappointing. The surroundings look good, but something about Lara makes her lighting and shadows look wierd.
Underworld is the sequel to Legend and the finale to the three games. I think its pretty much the same game that was released a few years ago, same trophies, same graphics, it just shares the disk with two other games.
Of all three games, Anniversary is the best. It's fun to revisit the very first Tomb Raider with new puzzles. Legend and Underworld's story is great, but Legend feels more like an action game than adventure, and Underworld's environments are too repetitive, (Underwater, Temple, Jungle, Temple, Jungle, Temple, Underwater, Temple, etc.) Nevertheless, its Tomb Raider, and it will always be fun if your a fan of the series, and should be able to look over its defects.
The bonuses are just videos of the creation and a few playstation home skins and themes, nothing spectacular.
Presentation - 8 - a 39.99 price is great for a three part game, owners of Underworld will be getting another copy, but Anniversary alone is worth it.
Gamplay - 7.5 - the gameplay is still the same from the PS2, and while it wasn't great, it is a fun puzzle oriented game. Anniversary is fun to return to.
Graphics - 8.5 - Legend is lacking, the other two look spectacular!
Sound - 9.5 - classic Tomb Raider soundtrack that never gets old, Lara has a great voice actor, as well as the other characters.
Lasting Appeal - 10 - Three full length games that will take 20+ hours to complete depending on your play type, plus secrets, time trials and trophies to go after
Overall - 8.5
