One of the worst games for the NES

User Rating: 2 | The Uncanny X-Men NES

The Uncanny X-Men was made for the NES by LJN, which is based from the X-Men comic book series from Marvel. Iceman, Storm, Colossus, Wolverine, NightCrawler and Cyclops are in the game and you can pick two of them before you begin a stage. Colossus, Wolverine, and NightCrawler punches and Iceman, Storm, and Cyclops shoot projectiles. There are four stages you can pick from, similar to the Mega Man series, then you have to put in a cheat code to unlock the final stage. I have recently found out that the cheat is on the game cartridge. But here's the problem, nobody is going to like on their copy of X-Men, if they have it, to look at the cheat code and write it down. Not only that, the print is too small anyway so there's no point to even look. Besides, I found out cheats back then was either by word of mouth or in a video game magazine like Nintendo Power. The fact that this cheat code is on the X-Men game shows that LJN didn't care about making a good game. This cheat code is pointless from the standpoint that wasn't need the final stage should have appeared with the

Having a X-Men game is a good premise but LJN did a very poor with the source material. The graphics is very poor and the level design was an awful cut and paste job and both didn't age well. The controls are very limited and forgettable because LJN did a very lackluster job with it. The Uncanny X-Men soundtrack is one of the worst soundtracks that's on the NES and especially among the games that was released by LJN. There was no reason to use a password to unlock the final stage but it should have been available with other stages. No other characters from the X-Men comic book series are in the game outside of Iceman, Storm, Colossus, Wolverine, NightCrawler and Cyclops. This a very bad adaptation of the X-Men that really has no connection with source material.
