Suprisingly good all the way through.

User Rating: 8.5 | The Warriors XBOX
I had never even heard of a film called The Warriors, but there really is one and it was released in 1979. The movie is based on a novel of the same name written by Sol Yurick in 1965. In short the movie is about gang life in New York and centers a lot around crime and violence. To me one really weird thing both in the movie and in the game was that nearly no one has firearms. Lead pipes, broken bottles and baseball bats are the name of the game.

The Warriors the game by Rockstar Toronto on PS2 and Xbox is based on this cult classic movie. The basic premise or graphics is nothing special, but the outcome is a great game. The Warriors the game expands the perspective greatly and about 80% of the game happens before the actual movie. This makes the player care about the plot and characters much more than just seeing the movie. Actually it would be better to first play the game and only after then watch the movie.

Graphics are ugly just like Rockstar Games usually are. They still do their job and the back alleys of New York look like a living and breathing city. Luckily the graphics are not the main star here: this game is very much story driven experience. This fact becomes all the more apparent in good voice acting and lots of cinematic cut-scenes.

Gameplay is a lot like Grand Theft Auto, but not as free roaming. Missions are varied with a lot of bonus missions and side quests, but towards the end it becomes a little repetitive.

In my personal opinion this is the best game made based on a movie and just a bit better than The Godfather by Electronic Arts.
