A solid fighting game with a good story line, but has many problems.
Bad: The lock-on is extremely flawed; enemies and missions can get annoying; controls are mediocre; the open world is somewhat limited to closed in streets.
The Warriors is a cult-classic movie that takes place in Coney Island, 1979. Your part of a gang named The Warriors, and you try to make it the most known gang on the island. The missions consist of spray painting on the enemies turf and beating the hell out of opposing gang members. Rockstar also added free-roam which makes this game a lot more than just an action game. Unfortunately, the free-roam is limited to closed in streets, and isn't that large. Its basically a mini GTA. As you play, you will beat people down with your fists, legs, and anything you can put your hands on. You press the square and X button to attack, and it has a lock on system. Unfortunately the lock on sucks. You'll quickly get frustrated as you lock on to your friendly units instead of the cop right in front of you. It gets very meticulous to keep trying to lock onto the right person, and you'll quickly just forget it and swing wildly at whatever is in front of you. The lock on doesn't ruin the experience but its a lot harder to take people down without it.
The music is almost non-existent in the game. You'll sometimes hear the old 80's music coming from a radio, but these moments quickly flee. The music that you can hear isn't always good, its pretty annoying actually. Luckily the game looks good. The environments are richly detailed and the character models are great looking. You'll quickly notice and be semi-impressed. The game doesn't do a good job of presenting itself, and it definitely helps if you've seen the movie.
Overall this is a great port, the best so far. Its only $20.00 and worth every penny. The story take around 10 hours going straight through, and it possesses a lot of replay value like mini games and side missions. Its highly recommended you watch the movie first. Otherwise you cant relate as much, and when you watch it before you play the game you will be a lot more into the game and interested and not wondering why your doing this.
