Despite some things, it's an awesome game none the less.
This game has a great story, which you can alter in many ways depending on your reactions and associations with the characters in-game. In this game, choice rules the story, and you're faced with hard decisions.
The Witcher made me think twice before every single reply I gave to a character in game, for they deeply affect things, which drew me into the game, this made it very fun for me. There are no right or wrong decisions, just what you choose, and that's what makes the game worth-while.
The gamelay ins interesting and unique, because there's a reaction time based style, with attack you have to click at a certain point to unleash your second, third, and so on chain of attacks, and as long as you can keep it up, the damage keeps climbing.
Alchemy is present in this game, and takes an interesting take on it, mixing things into potions and bombs to use to defend yourself or make you more powerful. There are pretty good selection of potions to create and choose from, for every situation.
The story keeps you coming back for more and more, though I'll admit that you may grow tiresome of some of the scenery, because you are stuck in certain places for drawn out periods of time before you advance to new areas, but regardless of this it's fun. The characters are fun, there's humor and sarcasm, and seriousness. By the end of the game you'll feel a great relation to all the characters and like all of them.
In the Enhanced edition of The Witcher, there are enhanced graphics, though this will cause some performance to suffer, even on really high end systems, I feel that that's one of the things that holds this game back, but it's manageable, at least for me, if you mess with some settings. Certainly not unplayable.
All in all I gave it a 9.5/10 for compelling story, unique gameplay, and the infinite universe of choices to be made.
