Thoroughly depressing to see such a great franchise dwindling in front of my eyes!
User Rating: 6.2 | Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 PS2
Ever since I first played Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003, I've been hooked on the series. Once I bought Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004, I never went to sleep thanks to the nearly perfect online mode. But once Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 came out, the tides began to change. This version was basically nearly identical to the 2004 version except for a BROKEN online mode (and I don't just mean the servers either.) This series then just began its slow descent to mediocrity with that game. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 did answer a lot of my grievances with fixed putting, better analog controls, sharper graphics, and way better golf course selections. Now the long awaited follow up is here as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. As much of a golfing fan that I am, I honestly can't recommend this game (at least the PS2 version) for purchase. Gone are the arcade-like abilities of TW 06 (actually useful Gamebreaker, 350yd drives) and are replaced by "Alternative Putting?" Worthless addition. Do we really need to go back to the Caddy Tip system, especially when the new version is actually worst than the 2005 edition?!? Geez. EA, shame on you. Here's my bottom line...
PROS:
Team concept is a cool concept (note the phrase "concept")
Fun new modes (one-ball, bloodsome) as well as the return of the Skillszone (minus any sound effects?!?)
Improved EA TRAX (bad hip-hop replaced with electronica)
No more talking golfers (seriously)
CONS:
No "Gamebreaker"
Game has obnoxious bugs/glitches
AI is still stupid (why would Vijay continuously hit into a tree!)
No legend golfers or "Era" mode
Give or take a couple of phrases, features the same commentary from Tiger Woods 2004!
THE BOTTOM LINE -
If you are a hardcore fan of this series, you may still enjoy this game. If you have a casual interest in this series or are a casual fan, get either Tiger Woods 2005 or 06. And, like I stated above, unless you are a hardcore Tiger Woods fan, do not pick this one up.
