Although this game is next-gen, it still disappoints on important levels.
PROS:
Improved control scheme
Nice overall graphical polish added, crowds can be hit with the golf ball!
Fun new modes (one-ball, bloodsome) as well as a new driving range to improve a character's skills.
Improved EA TRAX (bad hip-hop replaced with electronica)
No more talking golfers (seriously)
Make use of the SIXAXIS controller to control in-air ball spin
CONS:
Graphics not at the level expected by SONY expectations (for all PS3 games)
Make use of the SIXAXIS controller to control in-air ball spin (barely)
The shot circle doesn't seem to shrink enough when you've fully leveled up the golfer. Assigning attributes to equipment is no longer available.
Only 13 courses
Annoying "Talking Golfer" feature
No "Gamebreaker"
Game has obnoxious bugs/glitches (especially when unlocking equipment)
AI is still stupid (why would someone continuously hit out of a bunker with the same type of shot in the same direction after 4 attempts. No legend golfers or "Era" mode
Give or take a couple of phrases, features the same commentary from Tiger Woods 2004! Also, some of the crowd noises are GOSH-DARN annoying! Are these people screaming like ghosts every time I land a shot on the green?!? Online play is still broken!!! (for me anyway, most can play online)
THE BOTTOM LINE -
Worth picking up if you need a next-gen golf fix. Although it does need a lot of work to achieve the standards of the next generation of consoles. What this series needs is a new engine from the ground-up instead of packaging a game engine that's 5+ years old.
