Sluggish performance, boring commentary, and seriously outdated graphics make it hard to recommend this game.
I have put in about 15 hours of gameplay as of now.
GRAPHICS
Plastiky and bland graphics are the two main things which bothered me. Greens and fairways look like a mix of plastic and clay with an odd sheen when sunlight reflects off the grass. All non-core gameplay elements (ie, tree branches, spectators) are blocky previous-generation quality.
However, the golfers do look better now, as well as anything with a commercial brand / logo on it. The golf balls, shirts, clubs, etc are all done in fine detail. You'd be amazed to see these in action until the screen pans to a close up of one of those previous-gen quality tree branches.
Looking at the detailed golfing equipment and apparel, you know EA Sports is capable of creating great-looking graphics. I rather EASports put that effort into better looking scenary. You can't help but to feel disappointed.
SOUND
The quality of the game's commentator is evident within 30 seconds of firing up the game. For most of the game, he sounds like he's just waiting for the "time to go for dinner" (actual in-game quote). The boredom he brings to the game is overwhelming. Occasionally he tries to be exciting but those moments simple felt odd and corny.
GAME PLAY
The load times were slightly too long. Nothing major but you do need to wait for things to load all the time -- a sluggish feeling. The in-game frame rate also feels sluggish. Golfer animation are not fluid all the time, there are occasional choppy ball movements at times. Even the sloooow-paced commentary has its own trouble as it becomes garbled at times.
This just does not feel like a product which has become more refined over the past 5 years.
$$$ DLC $$$
When your created golfer gets his PGA card, you are kind of excited to be able to play with the big boys. You quickly fire up the first event in the PGA Tour... and the game tells you that you have to pay extra $$ to buy the golf course.
Uh... Didn't I just pay $40 - 60 for the game?
TO SUM IT UP
Don't buy this game.
