Namco have always been good in home conversions. Time Crisis has ruled the arcade, and now its available on the Playstation. Namco have added a wealth of extras to differentiate it from the stunning arcade game, and in doing so, have created a game which I believe is even better than its arcade counter-part. For those who dont know, Time Crisis is an on-rails arcade shooter, which uses the G-Con gun accessory. Utilising this, as well as a new feature for this genre, the act of ducking behind objects, added a kind of diversity and challenge to the Arcade game. The ability to hide was not a gimmick, as it was the only way to reload your gun, as well as dodge any incoming bullets. However, you will never find yourself over-using this feature, as a ticking timer will always keep you moving. The plot is derivative, but serves its purpose in assuring that you go up against more enemies than World War 1. And they are smart to, utilising the environment, and working together. There is variety in the enemies as well, with some running and gunning, others sneaking out shots, and everything else in between. The environments are varied as well, however, details are poor. You will be gunning inside and out, through areas like a Casino, Hotel Lobby, Car Park and more. Sound is good, however the music is repetitive. It does hype the action, but it needs more variety. It sounded like the same 3 bars over and over. Voices are good, with the bosses a highlight, although they say little, and the dialogue is very b-grade. The gameplay is engaging and enjoyable, and the addition of an entire new mission (which has different layers, depending on your accuracy) as well as a fully fledged scoreboard will keep you entertained for some time. Unfortunately, there are no mini games. While you wont find yourself playing this a lot, it will be a fun and engaging experience when you do. A near arcade perfect port, with some great new features make this an excellent game to own. Get it.
