Perhaps my hopes were too high?

As a hardcore Battlefield fan I was looking forward to Titanfall as a fun alternative to my beloved franchise. The game does do a whole lot more to earn my respect than all the recent CoD games, but still comes up short. The game almost feels like an unfinished product.

Combat is excellent. Weapons sound and feel powerful which makes them all a pleasure to use. Riding in a titan can really make you feel manly, but I often find the maps too tight and their movements too cumbersome to desire using them more than once or twice in a match.

My problems with the game are the small and short matches, unreasonably long load times, and the lack of an offline single player campaign. I find it amusing that Gamespot would give BF4 a score of 8 and complain of a ho hum single player campaign, but give Titanfall a 9 despite not having any offline single player mode at all, not to mention the games attempt at a story in the multiplayer campaign mode is laughable.

Short matches and instant respawning take some of the thrill away of staying alive IMO. Rewards are extremely easy to unlock providing little to no challenge. As fun as the game is, it's lacking a depth ive become familiar with in Battlefield games. Titanfall's combat feels like you have nothing to lose and little to gain, which only left me feeling empty inside and wanting more no matter how fun the match or how badly my team got whooped.

In all, Titanfall is a very fun experience and makes a great attempt to break the mold of your standard first person shooter. I recommend everyone give it a try. There's a good chance you will like it more than me. But for this gamer who fell in love with Battlefield 1942 back in 2002, its not enough to win my heart. Back to Caspian Border for me!
