If you have an Xbox, purchase it for the Xbox. The PS2 version is short, simplistic and poorly presented.

User Rating: 3.2 | Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 PS2
Being an avid fan of the original Ghost Recon on the PC, I was hyped for this title. Deciding in the end to purchase the game for the PS2, as soon as I stuck it on I was disappointed. The presentation and loading times are sluggish. Incidentally, a mate brought it over on the same day for the Xbox. Fast loading times, better graphics & gameplay coupled with some fun multiplayer co-op against AI. The PS2 unfortunately features very little of this. How the two games ended up so different is a discrepancy, considering most titles that port between the three consoles have no differential qualities. From the start screen, you'll see the difference. If I remember rightly the PS2 version has no intro movie when you load up the PS2; the Xbox version does. First off, if you loved the original squad based game with a high level of customisation, then you're most likely gonna hate this linear shooter. I didn't enjoy the game in the slightest and quite frankly, I don't know if I will buy the next title, Advanced Warfighter - despite the fact that is has the best graphics I have ever seen in a game. Back to GR2, everything about this game seems scaled down. It plays a lot like Republic Commando yet it shouldn't. It really should have mimicked the original but instead it comes off as the poor mans' version of SW: Republic Commando. The camera views are awkward, graphics are sub-par, the sound isn't compelling and the overall story is confusing. Basically, the first one had a better story even though it didn't have any cinematics. GR2 also suffers from an extremely short game time which you should find easy enough to get through in less than ten hours. When I played this I nearly went mental because of one of the cinematics. After all the boring missions I had to endure, you think it's all over! At that time I was about to smash the disc until I found out the game does go on a bit longer. Nonetheless, I wouldn't define it as longer just a wee bit of elongation. To round off, the game is boring and has poor replay value. The Xbox version on the other hand looks like a finished game and plays like a finished game, offering much replay value in its far more advanced multiplayer options. If you have an Xbox and Xbox Live, then use your head - unlike me - and stick with the far superior console.
