This is a solid game, with very little to complain about, but a lot to praise.
User Rating: 9.2 | Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory XBOX
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is a very solid game. The Graphics are the most realistic of any xbox game to date, and really make you feel immersed in a living breathing and dangerous world. Beautifull and open ended environments with tons of variety really give you a glimpse of what the future of games will be like. As good as the graphics are they are not the shining point of the game. The gameplay is great and one of the things that make the splinter cell games so great is the scope of choice that you have. Just a door alone gives you a plethora of ways to go about your business. You can pick a lock, or if your in a hurry you can break it open with your knife although this is louder so if you have the time you should pick it. Wanna know what's on the other side of the door? Use your optic fiber and take a peak under it. If there is a guard in the other room you can slowly and quietly open it, or if the room is clear you can just open it regular. If the guard is directly on the other side of the door you can bash it open and knock him out. The scope of choice applies to many things in the game and is one of the things that makes this series so great. If i were to complain about something it would be the A.I. as like most games the A.I. just isn't as realistic as the rest of the game. When you are slowly creeping your way around realistic shadows, doing realistic activities, and you have N.P.C's doing realistic scripted activities, it would be nice to have all of that remain the same, however when you are noticed the guards are sometimes hit or miss in terms of how they act. I remember on one occasion later in the game i was particularly frustrated because for whatever reason the guards seemed to have a super ability for not only hearing me and spotting me but also to start shooting me with perfect and instant aim. A Human being takes time to observe something, and react to it. A Human being makes mistakes. And human being are also different from one person to the next but the A.I. is a very general intelligents in that they all pretty much act like the same person, no personality no unpredicatable elements. It would be nice to see a developer make improvements in this area, perhaps next gen consoles will do this. All in all I highly reccomend this game. You won't find a better secret agent game on the xbox, and from it's smooth animated and realistic graphics, online coop mode, online versus mode, and more, it's hard to find a better game in general on any system.
